Late Monday Ramblings

Your weekly taste of my thoughts like it or not…

  • Christmas is in full swing…
  • Spent two days at a retreat in Zion National Park – wow – if you haven’t seen Zion, you’re missing out.
  • Played seven innings of softball and then about an hour of football on Saturday afternoon – end result:  confirmation that I am getting old, very old
  • Woke up dreaming of fried turkey today…
  • Yesterday was a solid Sunday – spoke from the Abraham narrative and made the main point that faith causes us to have God as our only contingency plan — good response – good day
  • My fantasy football team has now lost three straight – I’m a fast starter, but obviously am folding late.  Losing Tony Romo has not helped the situation.
  • Finished reading Rob Bell’s Jesus Came to Save Christians, pick it up – it will do your heart and mind some good.
  • Did Jesus like lima beans?
  • Interesting discussion on JLee’s blog.  Check it out at Come Before Winter. He refers to an old Mark Driscoll article.
  • Are the Tennessee Titans for real?  9-0 doesn’t lie.
  • The biggest leadership challenge in my life right now is figuring out how to strategically work/mentor/ and engage with all the great people that are making themselves available to serve and lead.  It is so common that we ask/need/pray/desire for people to join with us and our team… then don’t know what to do with them once they arrive.  So far, so good.
  • RiceKrispy treats never get old even if I do.
  • I have to wonder if Jon and Kate’s fifteen minutes are up?
  • If you aren’t twittering yet, it’s time to quit being in denial and get with it.
  • Tony Morgan’s post about resigning your job (posted earlier on this blog) caused quite a stir.  Simplistically, I think “passion for your job” is awesome, but not always a reality.  The post honestly sounds a bit arrogant and more church serving than God serving.  If you missed it, check it out here.
  • I’m pumped to be working with healthy people in a challenging environment doing some great kingdom initiatives.  Dream job is extremely contextual.  I just know I love mine.
  • I have rediscovered Chai Tea lattes (no water added).  Why am I rambling so much about food… and drink?
  • Met with our Stage Design/Set people tonight.  Doing some cool stuff with Christmas — headed towards a bit of classic (some might consider cheesy) Christmas look.  Might even include some flocked trees.  It’s the season.
  • I think I prefer long sleeves to short, but hot weather to cold.  I’m conflicted.
  • Starting a new three week series this Sunday entitled, “You Be The Judge”.  We kick it off in Matthew 7 doing the whole log/speck thing.  We then head to the discernment/judgment question and wrap it up with some biblical thoughts for those who are the target of judgment.  Looking forward to it.

One Response to “Late Monday Ramblings”

  1. I was in Zion last month, and miss it already, it is an amazing place. I am not so sure about the flocked trees, screams 80’s to me, unless that’s what you are going for.
