Resign From Your Job?

Tony Morgan has a post about having passion for your job.   What should you do?  Is he accurate?  Fair?

And check out J Lee’s comments below.  He comes at it from a different perspective… and perhaps more balanced?   Awaiting your replies.

  1. Seriously? How many people actually have that much self-awareness to know they are in their dream job? Who has it figured out that well? Pretty easy to say resign when you are the guy/guys in charge and get to make your dream job up as you go? And what about spending a season or two learning and growing in a job that isn’t necessarily all you dreamed but where God wants to mold you today? And does it imply that a pastor who has his dream job is working at a church that is his dream church? Next thing you know, these guys will declare they are “10″ with Jesus (you had to be there)!

  2. Actually – I have to agree with you. I especially like your comment about spending a season or two learning in a job where God is molding you. And you’re right… it is pretty easy to make comments and set down mandates when you are making the calls. Good balance!

  3. I read his post (thanks LosWit) I understand his point, but I think JL has a good point. Also, in my work, I go from dream job to ready to quit a couple of times through the year, I hope he didn’t catch someone at an off time…

  4. I concur as well. Especially at an economic time like this, you can’t just up and quit your job just because it’s not what you dreamed it would be. I realize this guy was talking to people in church job positions, but even working in the church has it’s good and bad days, just as you guys already pointed out. I also appreciate the point and am taking it to heart that sometimes you’re in a position for a year or two where God is molding you :) That thought makes me feel better when I’m having a bad day at work, thanks!

  5. “And what about spending a season or two learning and growing in a job that isn’t necessarily all you dreamed but where God wants to mold you today?”

    Much easier said than done.

The quote in question “If you’re not working your dream job, resign today.” ignores the fact that our general calling trumps specific callings. Namely that of provision trumping enjoyment in work.

“10″ with Jesus. May that never be spoken of again.
